FAQ / What is the Bible?

The Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God and thus the ultimate set of guiding principles governing all areas of life for the people of god. It is the inspired Word of God comprising the Old Testament and the New Testament.

History

About fourteen centuries before Christ, our Bible began in the Sinai desert when God spoke to Moses and commanded him to write. Having heard God speak as the mountain was smoking and shaking due to God's divine presence, Moses began writing the Scriptures. These are the first five books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy, also known as the Torah.

More than fifteen-hundred years later, the divine manuscript was completed on an island in the Mediterranean Sea by John, the apostle of Jesus Christ.

From Genesis through Revelation, the final book, there are sixty-six divinely inspired books. Over the centuries, approximately forty men and women representing varied backgrounds and writing styles served as channels for God's word. Yet in spite of these variations in time and talent, the Bible displays a marvelous historical, theological, geographical, topical, and biographical unit.

The Bible proclaims the "good news" of the gospel that we might know God. It explains the will of God so that we may grow spiritually before him. It also reveals our place within Gods program and answers crucial questions pertaining to our origin, purpose, and destiny.

God's truth is unchanging, so his guidance is for every generation. His Biblical principles teach us how to relate with Him and with our fellow man. Reading the Holy Bible is a very important part of communicating truth in our own lives and the world at large. (Exodus 33-34; Revelations 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
